Welcome to the Future: Draft 2012 Part 2

The Controversial Kirk Cousins

The talking heads talk. And after Mike Shanahan selected Kirk Cousins in the 4th round of the 2012 draft, they almost immediately tried to repeat QB Controversy 2011, posting polls on who will start in Washington - RGIII or Cousins. Sorry, there is no controversy here. There isn't even a competition. Washington may be the laughing stock of the NFL for many, but not for us, and not for long. Put your polls away and wait for the season to start before trying to make us controversy stricken. The only controversy here is that surrounding our unfair cap hit.

I will not spend time defending and enumerating our strengths last year. That is for another day. Our records is what it is and it in no way reflects the incredible talent we had and, hopefully, still have. My dislike for our former starting QB is well-documented. But my enthusiasm for our new starting QB knows no bounds, and the drafting of a second QB only increases my excitement. In the long run, we need a back up QB who is better than Grossman and who can develop in our system surrounded by our team. I think the Cousins pick is an excellent move, It not only gives us a promising back up, but also gives us stock for potential future trades. Way to go, Coach, another solid draft.
